Your website strategy matters
Let me pose a scenario for you.
You’ve decided to go on vacation.
You work hard and deserve a break.
All those long hours are finally going to pay off when you get to sit back with a drink in your hand watching the sunset.
Everything is packed and the family is ready to go. You hop in the car and start driving.
The only problem.
You don’t have a plan for how you will get to your destination.
You’ve envisioned it, but not sure how to get there. Hours go by and you keep driving.
Hoping to stumble upon the sandy beaches and hear the roar of the waves.
The reality—you never arrive.
This is what you’re doing when you build a website without a plan.
It’s like driving without a map.
You know you want your website to attract leads and bring in customers, but you’re not sure how. Knowing the end result without being sure how to get there isn’t enough.
You need a game-plan to get you there.
I see people make this mistake time and time again. They focus on the details not the big picture.
- How many animations are on the website
- What color button are we using
- Does it tell my whole story
All the while, missing the point.
Not understanding how to get from point A to point B.
Today, I’m going to show you how!
Forget everything else. Focus on these core questions.
Here are the most important questions you need to hone in on when building your website.
Only when you have these, can you start to move on to other aspects of the website.
- Who is the website for?
- What is their core problem? (Don’t solve all their problems—focus on one)
- How are you different from your competitors?
- What’s the main goal for a website visitor?
- How will you nurture people on the site who aren’t ready to buy yet?
- Why should customers trust you?
- How does this make your customer’s life better?
- What emotional and physical transformation happens when they purchase your service?
This is it!
Don’t waste your time on other stuff.
No one cares about:
- The color of the buttons
- What your logo means
- What city you grew up in
These are pointless for a website.
The answers to these questions are your roadmap to a website that helps your business grow.
Your website HAS to point to your ideal customer
Think of everything you say on your website as a guidepost that shines on your ideal customer.
(Note: I’ve written an entire issue on this if you want to learn more. Use your website to position yourself as a guide and win more customers.)
Doing this in conjunction with using the roadmap above, makes your website a powerful marketing tool. One that attracts and brings in high-quality leads.
Go through each potential section of your website and make sure you are accomplishing this.
Here are 2 examples.
- Hero section. This sets the stage for the rest of the website. Let your ideal customer know they are in the right place, and if they aren’t they should leave.
- Your services section. Don’t only talk about your services. Talk about them in a way that highlights the benefits your ideal customer will receive. How does it help them? No one cares that you offer 1-1 coaching. They care if you can help them see a clear vision for their future. One that results in more time, freedom, or money.
That’s it!
Take the strategy questions from above and incorporate this with a focus on your ideal customer and you will have a website that continually drives in high-quality leads.
Whatever you do, don’t overcomplicate this.
