3 simple steps for a website funnel that works
Hey everyone!
Today, I want to talk about a simple website funnel that you can use to drive more traffic to your website and convert visitors into customers.
The key to this funnel is ‘simple.’ I’m not interested in complex funnels. I believe the basics executed well will take you far.
Here’s what we will be covering:
- Attract people to your website
- Qualify them
- Convert
Mistakes to avoid
There are some common mistakes to avoid when thinking about your website funnel. As a reminder, your website is a part of your marketing funnel.
Here’s what it can’t do:
- Act as a silo from the rest of your marketing
- Convert visitors on it’s own
- Be a stand alone product in your business
When you do these things, your website will result in no leads or poor quality leads. You need to think about your website as an evolving tool in your marketing funnel.
Once you do, your website can start to attract ideal customers.
Let’s get started!
Step 1: Attract people to your website
The visitors who land on your website will be coming from 2 different directions:
- Cold with no knowledge of your business. This is how someone who finds you through Google Search or hears about you from someone else arrives at your website.
- Warm with some knowledge of your business. A much better scenario and results from traffic generated through social media or a strong referral.
Your website should definitely accommodate both, but the warm traffic will convert better.
I prefer to do this with social media. It’s a direct way to spread your message about what you do and who you are as a business.
Social media is a great way to build authority and become a subject matter expert before someone ever visits your website.
Start by writing high-quality content about your expertise.
You want to provide valuable resources for your ideal customer. The goal on social media is not to sell. It’s to educate. People need to believe you are capable of solving their problem, because you know so much about it.
Drive all social media traffic to your website. This is where you will start to qualify them.
Step 2: Qualify them with messaging and positioning
If you have executed step 1 effectively, you will start seeing an increase in your website traffic. Congrats!
Now, you want to qualify them.
Hopefully you have your ideal target customer nailed down and know exactly who you are speaking to.
Your website should make people who aren’t your ideal customer want to leave.
See, your website should be exclusive to only people you see as your ideal customer. Make them feel heard, seen, and understood.
These are emotions that all move people to buy.
By having a website that qualifies, you limit the number of people who reach out, but the quality is going to be much better.
Step 3: Convert with strong call to actions
The last step is key, and something a lot of small businesses get wrong.
They forget to call the visitor to action.
Don’t miss this step! If you want people to reach out and purchase your service, you have to provide clear next steps.
Make sure every section on your homepage has a strong call to action.
That means you are telling people over and over again to reach out, book a call, or fill out a form.
When people are ready to reach out, they don’t have to hunt around for a place to do so. Because people will give up easily if this is too hard.
I hope these steps are helpful in building a website that acts as a tool for your business to grow.
